Are Seniors Into eBook Readers?

I received a question from a reader (Marcia) on seniors and ebook readers. The question asked if there were any 2011 statistics on Baby boomers and their use of digital readers such as the Kindle and Nook? I poked around in Google and came up with the following two great resources on the topic.

First is an article at Mashable on baby boomers adopting digital media and the second is a video by ABC on baby boomers and e-readers. They both touch on the same notion that those aged 50 and above are taking to the web, smartphones and cool new technologies such as ebook readers.

Fact is that 50% of books will be viewed and read on an electronic device in the coming decade. This is a stat straight out of the video below which discusses the Kindle along with other new digital media.

Do you have first hand experience with a Senior (maybe a grandparent or neighbor) that has adopted new tech such as the Kindle from Amazon or the Nook from Barnes N noble and loves it? If so, do share it below in the comment area.

Thanks for the great question, Marcia.
